5 SEO Tricks to Increase Traffic To Your Website
These 5 Simple SEO Tricks Can Increase Traffic to your Website Tremendously!
Most people get a little on edge when asked about their SEO techniques and best practices. Most don't know how to increase traffic to their website. It's a touchy subject surrounded in mystery for a lot of business owners who aren't intricately involved in their websites. And surprisingly a lot still don't really know what works best or how to test out each marketing/advertising method for effectiveness. It's a mysterious world, with the common theme being "throw everything at it and see what sticks. If it works, don't touch it, if it doesn't work, change everything". I've compiled a few SEO tricks that can increase website traffic tremendously.
My Best Advice: Stick with it
Before we get into the 5 Best SEO tips to increase traffic, I cannot stress enough how important it is to stick with it! SEO doesn't have to be tricky, frustrating, or confusing. Creating a plan of action before you start and sticking to the plan will be your best ally.
Of course, coming up with the best and most efficient plan isn't going to happen without research, but dedication to your plan is probably the hardest parts of SEO and Internet Marketing. You won't see instant results and this leads to worry, and often a result of that worry is throwing in the towel and rewriting/re-planning everything you've already done (over and over again).
The truth is SEO and Internet Marketing is a long game, you need to adopt a strategy, sit with it and see how it fits into the larger picture. With tracking and analytics you will be able to see the best results and what needs tweaking and what is working to increase traffic to your site.

As I said earlier, the biggest mistake people make in Internet Marketing and Advertising is pulling out of the game before the game has even had a chance to really get going. It's not uncommon to go 2, 3 or even 6 months without seeing much results. Google is known to take it's time on ranking new sites, and their is really just no way around that. So I can see how dumping in those advertising fees could get a bit nerve racking if you aren't looking at the bigger picture or seeing instant returns.
This mindset can really set you back, both time and money wise. So take the time at the beginning, research, put together a plan and stick with it for at least 3 to 6 months. Dedication and faith in your plan will go a long way during this short span of time.
With that said, their are still some quick action items you can do today, for free, that will help you greatly increase your search engine rankings.
Here are five proven and effective SEO tactics you should explore to increase your website ranking.
1. Search Engine Friendly URL's
This should be a no brainer by now, but it's amazing how complicated some people make this step. Wordpress and many other CMS's make creating these type of Search Engine Friendly URL's easy to implement, usually with the click of a button. Take a minute, find this setting, and ensure your site is creating the right type of links. The last thing Google is looking for is a URL that is filled with all kinds of dates, times, and no real description of what is on the page. Optimize your pages and increase traffic by making your URL's make sense. And if possible, target site specific keywords in the title's where you can, without looking too spammy.

2. Link to Top Content in Your Niche
It's no doubt that getting links into your site can really increase your search engine ranking. But did you know that linking to authority sites can also help improve your ranking? Backlink.o has a great portion on his site regarding the importance of linking to authority sites (#7 for those who don't want to read the entire article -- although you should, it has some great tips in it as well, and for all those old pro's, he does get a bit more detailed then I do in this post).
Now as you can see links are a major part of content marketing and SEO because:
- Unless you are linking, getting linked and keeping links to your site on a constant basis you won't get ranked in Google very well.
- If you can't get ranked on Google, you will not be found (at least not without a lot of word of mouth, or outside advertising
- No one can read or buy your products, if they can't find it
**QUICK TIP: Another linking technique that can be utilized to help is linking your pages to each other. I go into that in more detail in my post "Interlinking Your Content to Increase Search Engine Rankings"
3. Embed Long-Tailed Keywords in Your Post Titles
The days of ranking for one or even two-word keywords is over. The internet is saturated with websites, businesses and Jesse's mom trying to get ranked for almost every keyword imaginable. This is why it is important to include in your keyword search some long-tailed keywords. (**By the way, the site I like the best for keyword research is KeywordSpy.com**) These long-tailed keywords can help you target a more specific niche and help you rank well for not only the long-tail keyword, but it can help increase your rankings for other related keywords as well.
Start thinking like your prospective customer. Take their mindset into account and think about what you would search for. What would they be searching for if they needed your services? Below are some examples:
Targeted niche: web design, web development, web solutions
Long-tail keyword suggestions: [location] web design, professional web design, web development in [location], increase traffic, design a Wordpress website, plan out a new website, help building my website, learn about the web development process, etc.
The list could really go on. After you have about 20 - 50 really good keywords, start using them in your content. Look for a few long-tailed keywords in each post, and it will definitely help draw in some extra visits.
4. Write longer content, over 1,500 words
Content marketing in 2015 generated 3 times as many leads as traditional outbound marketing, but it cost about 62% less. (Source: HubSpot)
As I write this paragraph I am looking at hitting about 1,500 words or more. Some may think that can be a daunting task, and for those early web developers and entrepreneurs who could always get away with 400 - 500 word posts it probably is a daunting affair. Increasing your traffic with quality content is what is going to get you ranked well and keep you ranked high. For example, this article really tries to teach and help the visitors of this site. Reaching over 1,000 words wasn't that hard because there is a lot to discuss when trying to increase traffic. Their is so much to talk about when you are planning a website, but if you love what you do, and really want to broadcast your message, and educate your visitors, you should have no problem writing articles and content that have substance to them.
Google Loves Content!
Google loves good content, they love industry leaders who provide thought provoking content visitors are searching for. And, now, Google has figured out a way to get better and better at recognizing which types of content is worth while, and which kind of content looks spammy. Short articles filled with spam words will throw up a red flag in Google. In other words, don't post just to post, post because you think what you have to say will be of value to a potential customer. Post because it helps in some way, not just to boost your rankings.
If you are having a hard time finding content that is relevant to your business you may want to check out competitors sites. Look to see what information they are highlighting and what content they are providing. You could also get on forums in your niche and see what potential customer are talking about. Try to write articles geared towards subjects visitors are already interested in.
5. Optimize for Mobile Sites
The mobile world is taking over, and more and more people are turning to their phones for the information they need. Whether it be checking out the latest news with your coffee or researching marketing tips laying in bed. I'll tell you one thing, nothing bothers me more than trying to read an article of interest and find some annoying development. Finding the site not optimized or ridden with pop ups, or the article is embedded with so many ads it is unreadable is very frustrating. These things will not increase your traffic, and in the end could really hurt your business.
60% of all Internet activity in the US originates from mobile devices. And about half of total Internet Traffic flows through mobile apps. (source)
What I did for my site is use a mobile responsive Wordpress theme. This takes the guess work out of trying to code mobile responsiveness into your site, which can be a little tricky. On my home page and I have simplified everything. I made my buttons huge and de-cluttered the entire page. It's not fancy, and I'm ok with that. It's different, but feels the same throughout my website and have a very unified presence. l'll be the first to admit that my branding could use a little work, don't worry, I'll get there. But on mobile, it is easily readily and all parts are accessible and easy to find. You don't have to worry about "fat fingers" syndrome because I have made everything big enough for all visitors (big and small).
If you haven't optimized your site for mobile viewing yet, you are likely missing out on opportunities to increase traffic. Millions of people use their phones to get information and millions more are entering the mobile market every day. You can either spend the money and have someone design a specialized mobile site for your website, or try using Wordpress templates. These templates can already be pre-build for mobile optimization. Either way, take the time, take the money and invest in your mobile brand. It goes a long way, and Google can increase your rankings based on this factor as well.
With so many factors to consider, narrowing it down to just five tips was hard! Try them out and let us know how they worked for you!
